Meta Platforms closed Wednesday at $744.10, up about 1%, for a market value near $1.90 trillion. Then Connect started. That timing matters. Thursday is the first full session where investors price what Mark Zuckerberg actually shipped, and what he left open.
The hardware list is long. The investment question is shorter: which parts of that list already have a revenue path, and which part still depends on Muse turning engagement into cash while bond yields sit above 5%.
What already has a price tag
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 starts at $449 and went on sale the same day as the keynote. Meta is selling a thinner frame, about nine hours of battery, a six-microphone array, and a 12MP camera with 3K video. That is a refresh of a product line investors already understand: hardware margin, attach to Meta’s services, and repeat purchase cycles.
Ray-Ban Meta Audio starts at $349. It is Meta’s first camera-free glasses pair, with pre-orders open and shipping targeted for October 13. Meta’s own Adventurer line starts at $249 with shipping aimed at October 23. The Meta Ray-Ban Display, already sold in the U.S. at $799, is set for EU markets at EUR 899 from October 13.
The clearest near-term revenue stack is those glasses SKUs. They do not need a new category thesis. They need sell-through.
Meta also put a spring price on a heavier bet: Meta VR Glasses at $1,299. The pitch is weight, about 100 grams in magnesium frames, pancake lenses, a 5K display with full-color passthrough, and a tethered compute puck on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite. Battery life is listed at up to three hours. Meta says more than 75 titles at launch. That undercuts Apple’s Vision Pro launch price by a wide margin, but it does not ship in this quarter.
One quieter product may widen the addressable market for the glasses line. Meta announced an FDA-cleared hearing enhancement feature at $149 as a one-time purchase, or bundled into a Meta One subscription, with FSA and HSA eligibility in the U.S. later this year. That is not Muse. It is a reimbursement path for eyewear that already has a known attach story.
What Muse Charm still withholds
Muse Charm is the device that matches the last month’s Muse FOMO. It is keychain-sized, built around Meta’s Muse AI agent, with a small display, speakers, microphones, a camera, and a fingerprint sensor users press to talk. Zuckerberg said users do not need to wake a phone or open an app to use it.
He also said Meta has only built a few units so far and still needs to finalize finishing materials. Meta’s own Connect recap said more details would come later this year. Live blogs split on timing. Some wrote “this fall.” Others wrote holiday season in December. When the date language conflicts, treat the ship window as unconfirmed until Meta posts a product page with one.
Price is blank too. That is the gap. Glasses have sticker prices and sell dates. Charm is the hardware expression of Muse, and Muse is the narrative that helped push META up roughly 37% over the past month in much of the reporting. An always-on AI pendant with no price and a soft date is not yet a modelable hardware line.
Past consumer AI gadgets with similar form factors have failed when the agent was not useful enough to carry every day. Rabbit R1 is the easy comparison. Meta is betting Muse’s newer computer-use and email-control features change that math. Investors cannot mark that bet to a SKU until price and volume show up.
How the street split the tape
Two large target raises landed on keynote day. KeyBanc’s Justin Patterson moved to $900 from $780. Cantor Fitzgerald’s Deepak Mathivanan moved to $860 from $680. RBC’s Brad Erickson held $770. Across 62 analysts polled by S&P Global, the consensus target sat near $761, only a few percent above the $744.10 close, with a street high of $1,000 and a low of $580.
That spread is the trade. Bulls are underwriting Muse as a platform that converts engagement into agent commerce. Base-case models mostly credit the known glasses curve and leave Muse as engagement upside. Bears need Muse monetization to slip, Charm to arrive late or expensive, and the VR Glasses spring timeline to slip while the multiple compresses.
META’s trailing P/E near 28 is not extreme versus its own history. At a $1.9 trillion market value, the stock still needs the narrative to keep compounding. Hardware without a price does not compound a model. It only compounds curiosity.
Why the 5.1% yield matters on the same morning
Meta is not pricing Charm in a vacuum. On September 23 the 10-year Treasury yield settled near 5.11%, its highest level since 2007, after hot S&P Global flash PMI readings and another rise in oil. CME FedWatch odds for an October 25-basis-point hike jumped into the high 60s to about 71% range, depending on the print time.
Higher long rates raise the discount rate on distant cash flows. That hits AI platform stories harder than near-term glasses sell-through. Ray-Ban units shipping in October can be booked this year. A Charm that ships “later” with no ASP is duration risk sitting on top of multiple risk.
Chip names felt that mix in premarket Thursday. Reuters flagged Meta and Nvidia among AI-related decliners as futures slipped, with Marvell and Intel weaker as well. The read-across for META holders is not that glasses are worthless. It is that the market is less willing to pay for undefined Muse monetization while the risk-free rate sits above 5%.
What to watch next
Watch Thursday’s session for how much of Wednesday’s close survives the first full pricing of Connect. Watch whether Meta publishes a Charm price, regions, and a firm ship month before the holiday window turns into a miss. Watch October sell-through comments on Gen 3 and Audio, because those are the SKUs that can pay bills before spring VR Glasses arrive.
Also watch the Developer State of the Union on September 24 at 10 a.m. Pacific. That is where SDK access, store economics for the VR line, and any Muse platform terms usually surface. Those details decide whether this hardware list becomes a platform or stays a product catalog.
The asymmetric question for META is not whether Zuckerberg can ship more gadgets. He already did. It is whether Muse Charm turns a viral agent into a priced, shippable product before a 5% Treasury tape forces the growth multiple to do the work alone.
